Intranet Development

Background

State Street Global Advisors is one of the top international investment management companies with offices in 15 countries. Like many companies, they realized the potential of an intranet to expedite communications within the company and to provide timely information and resources for employees.

Issues

They originally hired a large Web development firm to plan and develop their intranet. As a result of our consulting on their Web site development, however, they realized that we could do a great job on the project with a much more reasonable budget.

Solution

The company employees ranged from computer novices to experienced computer users and Web surfers. This told us that we needed to provide both a logical information structure and a highly intuitive interface to encourage employees to use the intranet and reap its benefits.

In addition to the overall structure and design, we developed and wrote a number of the sites and Web applications that reside on their intranet. We worked closely with the company's technical staff and corporate communications group to coordinate our work and handle updates, new intranet sites, and content.

To complete the project, we also wrote and produced the Publishing Guidelines for the intranet to ensure consistency as more content was added over the years.
